Indirect Speech of Question Sentences

سوالیہ فقرات (direct speech) کو (indirect speech) میں تبدیل کرنے کیلیے بنیادی قوانین:

1. Comma and inverted commas ko remove kr diya jaye ga.
2. The conjunction “that” ko use nahi kiya jaye ga.
3. Indirect speech main swaliya fiqrat ko interrogative form ki bjaye assertive yani positive form main express kiya jaye ga.
4. Question mark (?) ko use nahi krain gay.
5. Direct speech main use kiye gay verbs jaisa k ‘say’ or ‘tell’ ko indirect speech main ‘ask’ or ‘inquire’ sy replace kr diya jaye ga.

Yeh rules tamam question-sentences yani sawaliya fiqrat k liye common hain. In rules k ilawa kuch mehsoos rules hain jo question type k mutabiq lagay jaty hain.

There are two types of question-sentences:

1. Aisa question jiska answer yes or no main diya ja skta hai.
Example:

Do you like mangoes?

Aisy question ka jawab YES or NO main diya ja skta hai.

Asy question ko indirect speech main likhny k liye WHETHER ya IF ka use kiya jata hai.

Example:

Direct speech:
Amna asked me, “Do you like coffee?” (iska answer YES or NO main diya ja skta hai)

Indirect speech:

Amna asked me WHETHER/IF I liked coffee.

Direct speech:
Amna said to Ahmad, “Will you teach me English?”
Indirect speech:
Amna asked Ahmad WHETHER/IF he would teach her English.

2. Aisy questions jinka answer sirf YES or NO main nahi diya ja skta, balky thora detail main batan prta hai.

Asy questions WHAT, WHY, HOW, WHEN etc sy start hoty hain.

Example:

What are you doing?
Ab iska jawab YES or NO main nahi diya ja skta, balky explain krna pry ga k ap kya kr rahy ho.
Masaal k tor per aap jawab dy skty ho k I'm watching TV, pr YES or NO sy kaam nahi chaly ga.

Asy questions ko indirect speech main likhny k liye WHETHER ya IF use nahi kiya jata, balky question ko assertive ya positive form main change kr k reporting verb k bad likh diya jata hai.

Example:

Direct speech: He said to me, “What are you doing?”

Indirect speech: He asked me what I was doing.

Direct speech: She said to me, “What is your name?”

Indirect speech: She asked me what my name was.

Direct speech: Teacher said to her, “Why did you fail the exam?”

Indirect speech: Teacher asked her why she had failed the exam.
